My Online School is an online education system for Grades 4 to 10, used by South African families educating at home and by tutoring centres teaching small groups. It delivers a full sequenced curriculum through video lessons, marks the assessments automatically and tracks each student’s progress. Access is R4,800 for twelve months, and it leads into the GED® as a Grade 12 alternative.

My Online School has run in South Africa since 2022. The system is powered by Study.com and carries more than 30,000 short video lessons, each paired with a quiz, a printable transcript and a worksheet.

It is self-paced. There are no fixed timetables, no school terms and no live classes. A student works when it suits them — mornings, evenings or through the holidays — on any device with a browser. Quizzes and practice tests are marked automatically, so strengths and gaps surface immediately, and certificates of completion are issued as each section is finished.

No textbooks are required. Whoever is supervising — a parent or a tutor — monitors progress from a separate device without interrupting the student.

The system is designed for students aged roughly 9 and up, covering Grades 4 through 10. It is used in two settings.

Most of our students are home educated. Parents come to My Online School because the curriculum is already sequenced and assessed, so they are supervising rather than building a syllabus from scratch. It suits families starting home education for the first time, families moving away from mainstream schooling, and students working ahead of or behind their age group — grades can be switched at any time at no extra cost.

Tutoring centres use the same system as a structured curriculum for the students in their care. Because progress is tracked per student and assessments are marked automatically, one tutor can supervise several students working at different grades and different speeds at the same time.

Once the enrolment fee is paid, login details are emailed within 24 hours. Students can enrol at any time of year; there is no intake date to wait for.

Each subject contains roughly 100 to 150 video lessons. Subjects across the grade range include English, Maths, Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, Biology, English Literature, Geography, World History, Social Studies, Drama, Music Theory, French, German and Spanish. The curriculum is American in origin, which is what makes the GED® a natural exit point.

Access is R4,800 for twelve months, covering every subject, all assessments and support. There are no per-subject charges and no separate examination fees within the system.

Payment is handled through PayFast. The instalment options exist so families are not locked into a single upfront amount.

My Online School covers Grades 4 to 10. It does not award a school leaving certificate itself. Students continue in one of two directions:

• The GED® route. Students enrol with Pass High School (formerly Pass GED) to sit the GED®. SAQA evaluates the GED® as equivalent to a Grade 12, issuing a Certificate of Evaluation on a case by case basis at its own discretion. A GED® opens applications to TVET colleges, private colleges and Higher Certificate programmes, and is accepted by most international universities.
• The IGCSE route. Students aiming for a South African university generally need a different qualification. Cambricollege, our sister school, takes students from Grade 8 towards IGCSE examinations.

We would rather set this out plainly before you enrol than after. If university in South Africa is the goal, ask us about the IGCSE route first.

• It is not a registered school. It is an online education system. A home educated student is registered as home educated, not enrolled at an institution.
• It does not follow CAPS and does not lead to the NSC. The curriculum is American and leads to the GED®.
• It does not provide teachers. Lessons are pre-recorded and self-paced. A parent or tutor supervises.
• It does not offer Afrikaans. Afrikaans is the home language of around 10.6% of South Africans and matters, but it is not in this curriculum. Families who want it usually add it separately.

This section applies to families educating at home. Home education is a legally recognised route in South Africa, and the responsibility sits with the parent rather than with a curriculum provider.

• Children under the age of 15 must be registered for home education with the Department of Basic Education. Registration is free.
• The parent is the primary educator and takes full responsibility for the child’s education.
• Parents may choose any curriculum of a standard not inferior to that provided at public schools. The Policy on Home Education (2020) sets out the detail.
• The Pestalozzi Trust is the legal arm of home schooling in South Africa. We suggest registering with them for children under 15.

My Online School supplies the curriculum and the assessment. The registration and the legal responsibility remain yours.
